Let’s Get Typing is a touch-typing game. We keep as little about you as we can: no analytics, no ads, no tracking, and you can play without giving us anything at all.
Who we are
Scientific Insights, the Netherlands (Chamber of Commerce 76009432). Questions or requests: [email protected].
What we store, and why
- Your profile: your settings, the keys you've unlocked, your level, streak and best scores. As a guest it's anonymous, identified by a random key your browser keeps in its local storage. We need it to run the game for you.
- If you sign up: your email address (to send login links), the name you'd like to be called, your age bracket and how well you typed when you started (so the game fits you). Staying logged in uses one cookie that only holds a random session key; there are no other cookies.
- For players under 16: a parent's email address, to ask them to approve the account, and whether they did.
- If you're in a group (a class, a family, friends): which groups, and who made them. The other members see the name you gave, and your speed, practice time and stars on the group's leaderboard; never your email address. Leave a group any time, and its owner can end it.
- For schools: a teacher who sets up a class gives an email address only so we can send the link to their class page; we don't store it. We store the class's name and code, and for each pupil the first name (or nickname) the teacher entered, a PIN (stored as a hash, never readable) and their rounds as above. Pupils need no email address. The teacher sees each pupil's progress; classmates see each other's name and scores on the class leaderboard. Deleting a pupil or the class deletes their data.
- Your rounds: which keys you typed and how quickly, so practice can adapt to your weak keys and the game can show your progress.
- If you subscribe to Premium: the Stripe customer and subscription ids and the subscription's status and renewal date. Card details go to Stripe, not to us.
- Your IP address, briefly: in memory to limit how many profiles can be created from one address, and in the server's logs, which are rotated and kept for a few weeks at most, to keep the service secure.
We use this data to provide the game you asked for (article 6(1)(b) GDPR) and, for IP addresses, our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure (article 6(1)(f)).
Who else handles it
- Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany) hosts the game and its database.
- Stripe sells Premium to you and handles the payment, tax, receipts and subscription management as the merchant of record. Stripe's own privacy policy applies to the data you give it.
- Resend sends our emails (login links, class page links for teachers, for parents an approval request, and confirmation that an account was deleted), and keeps a record of what it sent for a limited time under its own privacy policy.
How long we keep it
As long as your profile exists. You can delete it, with everything typed on it and the parent's email address, at any time under Settings → Delete account (if you have Premium, cancel it first under Settings → Premium); we confirm by email that it's gone. Backups that still contain it are overwritten within 7 days.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it, by writing to [email protected] from your account's email address, so we know which account is yours. You can also complain to your data protection authority (in the Netherlands, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is published here with a new date.
